Actiwatch
We ask you to wear the actigraphy device continuously throughout the 10-day period of your participation. ONLY when you have a shower or go for a swim we ask you to take off the watch as they can get damaged in water.

The objective of a fatigue study is to understand the impact of your professional activity on your sleep and your fatigue levels. This involves collecting sleep and fatigue data using a web application.
The EASA ATCO Fatigue Study is a research project on the impact analysis, prevention, and management of ATCOs fatigue in the European Union. The study, led by NLR and Welbees, is conducted in a scientific and objective manner, supported by data collection and various research methods. Its objectives are threefold:
- An evaluation of the implementation of EU regulations on this issue, notably Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2017/373, which imposed on air traffic service providers specific requirements linked to ATCOs stress, fatigue and rostering systems as part of their safety management systems.
- Scientific research and data collection on ATCO fatigue causes and impacts through fatigue science methodologies.
- An assessment of the possible impact of the introduction of new technologies on the ATCOs’ workload and fatigue.
The study and its results involve regulations regarding Air Traffic Service Providers and their ATCOs, which contribute to fatigue mitigations to maintain safety standards.
The following data will be collected:
- Information about your working sessions: periods of continuous work between two breaks – several working sessions form one shift.
- Information about your sleep.
- Evaluation of your fatigue levels.
Webapp
The data needs to be logged daily during a period of minimum 10 consecutive days, including rest days. It is important to complete the app every day to allow meaningful analysis of the cumulative fatigue that builds up over consecutive days.
You can add, modify or delete the activity information at any time. However please note that you cannot modify a fatigue evaluation. To find out how to add, modify or delete an activity, consult our user guide.
The Welbees application is a web application allowing you to take part in a fatigue study by recording you daily activities and assessing your fatigue levels during these activities.
Individuals react differently to being exposed to fatigue. Profile information allows to determine if individual variables play a part in fatigue and how much they contribute.
This information is never shared with your employer, nor do we make recommendations based on individual characteristics. Profile information is only used to enhance the data collected by accounting for individual characteristics.
